Help Promote BAAPT in Meetup

Do you know about Meetup? Did you know that we have a Meetup Group? Did you know that several of our newest BAAPT members found us through Meetup!
Meetup is the world's largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.
Meetup's mission is to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference.

Our Meetup group currently lists 72 "Type enthusiasts".  We'd love to increase that number, to show people who find our Meetup group that we are an active community!

To that end, we're asking all BAAPT members to please join Meetup. It's free.
  1. If you don't have a Meetup account yet, start here.
  2. Once you have a Meetup account, head over to our page and click the red Join Us button.

Brain Scanning with Dario Nardi

2/25/2015

Imagine peering into your own brain to learn how it truly works. You can, during the weekend of March 13, when Dario Nardi offers brain scanning sessions before and after our Saturday program. Sessions cost $220 and will take place in Burlingame, CA (location to come).
The sessions last 90 minutes total. There is an intake form that that you fill out, ideally before you arrive for your session.
The process uses a hair-gel that you may want to wash out if you are on your way to work, etc. Otherwise, the process is harmless.

Read more and sign up.

If you're interested but not certain, curious about what sorts of "tasks" you'll be expected to do, or want more information the "EEG cap", you may want to read Vicki Brown's blog post about her experience with the brain scanning study last June!

I live in San Francisco, and am a management consultant implementing Lean and Agile approaches, mostly with IT groups. I was introduced to type years ago, but my interest was renewed while I was a management coach in Japan.

I use type as a model to help me understand what to expect from my clients, to help explain to them what they need from each other, and what solutions will be possible (as in, what changes people will agree to).

I joined BAAPT after my first event because the quality of the content, the facilities, and programming were very professional. I enjoy the mornings very much!

Recap of February Program – Type & Relationships

2/25/2015

BAAPT member panels have been a popular program, and a great way to depict Type in action. On February 14th, Adam Frey facilitated a Couples Panel, and shares a brief summary below.
For this Valentine’s Day program at BAAPT, I interviewed two married couples about type and relationships.

Gina and Tom Snyder have been married for 48 years. Gina has preferences for ENFJ; Tom’s are for INTP.  As they spoke, I was struck by how well they have come to know each other and how much work they have done to learn to accommodate each other’s type orientation. Gina remarked that knowing type theory saved their marriage.

Christine Oh and Bruce Ortiz met in 2008 and have been married since 2010.

Their preferences are for INFP and ISTJ. It was interesting to hear how these two people with introverted preferences respect and make space for each other. Like Tom and Gina, they said that understanding type makes it much easier for them to face challenges together.

Members of the audience asked pertinent questions and offered provocative ideas. One of the most interesting ideas of the day, for me, came from Gina Snyder. In speaking about her experience of having children, she suggested that post-partum depression may be largely a reaction to the disturbance to the mother’s introversion or extraversion that naturally follows on having a child. If the mother, like Gina, is an extravert, it may be hard for her to adjust to staying home and taking care of the baby rather than being out in the world. Conversely, if the mother is an introvert, it may be hard to get acclimated to having to be always available to the baby and not having substantial stretches of time alone.
