Four of us met at Kristin Nisewaner's home in June to talk about Type. As we sipped coffee and nibbled on muffins and fruit, we discussed the 8 Functions as presented by Bob McAlpine in May. In particular, we delved more deeply into Bob's idea of opposites: Dynamic Opposite, Opposing Personality, and (to a lesser extent) Complementary Opposite.
All four of us prefer iNtuition (one Ne and three Ni) and we agreed that we weren't sure what the underlying model was for these "opposites". We understood the shortcuts to determining them: change the outer letters for the Opposing Personality, the inner letters for the Dynamic Opposite, and all four letters for the Complementary Opposite. But what does each opposite mean? Vicki wrote out the full codes for each "opposite" and thinks she has a handle on how each opposite was determined, based on what's changing in terms of functions. Julie said she'd send a note to Bob to ask if he might provide more background information for us. Two hours went by too quickly. We hope you'll be able to join us at a future Type Talk. Perhaps in August?
Central to discussions in both the morning and afternoon was the understanding of dynamic interactions of type preference in problem solving and in sharing feedback.
We're happy to inform you that BAAPT is alive and well during the summer months.
Have a great month, Mit and Julie Mit Kumarasamy & Julie Wright BAAPT Marketing Co-Directors Our monthly BAAPT programs provide bring us informed speakers and interesting topics. They provide great food for thought, both during, and after, the presentation. Perhaps you feel like Anna: I have noticed that after our BAAPT sessions, as I digest the material presented, new questions and new connections arise as I drive home and the next day.
The conference was live-streamed and video of the presentations is now available.
It's hard to believe that we're reaching the end of our 2014-15 regular program year. It's been a fantastic year, and although our usual Saturday morning presentations are over for a while, BAAPT will continue to be alive and well during the summer months. Watch for more details coming your way soon!
Mit and Julie Mit Kumarasamy & Julie Wright BAAPT Marketing Co-Directors You probably recognize Mary Lynne as BAAPT’s Programs Committee Co-Director, and as former Continuing Education lead. And, of course, as the talented coordinator of the delicious luncheons she’s arranged for the several all-day events we’ve held this year (for which we thank her profusely). Here’s the chance to learn more about her… Mary Lynne has been a BAAPT member since 1992. She uses type both personally and professionally as a Nationally Certified and Master Career Counselor and Life Planning Coach. She is a trainer for an EAP to corporations (Google, HP, TiVo), agencies (NASA, city, county, state governments), Universities (Stanford, Santa Clara, Cal, SJSU), non-profits, etc. Mary Lynne co-founded The Third Age Coalition in 1999 and continues to focus her private practice on the 50+ population. Mary Lynne credits knowledge of type for greater appreciation of differences among family members and friends, and wishes she had known the power of this awareness many years earlier! Definitely, according to Mary Lynne, BAAPT Rocks!!! She has ENFJ preferences, and lives in Los Altos with her husband Tony. |
